MOST said to feast on apples, so I did;
but while I did, I tried the orange, too.
For tho they’d not, the other fruits, forbid,
I’d been told oft to do what MOST would do.
I did not stop at just the orange, though,
and ventured on to fruits of every coast.
And though I loved my questing, even so,
they scorned me for not blending in with MOST.
My tests brought me into a private grove
where grew an apple of a sweeter sort.
But MOST had never seen this treasure trove
of apples of which their own kind fell short.''
MOST had the answer: apples were the best;
but failed to sort their best from all the rest.

Behind my eyes are wants e’en I don’t know—
things I would love to see—would love to say.
But now they are all imageless, and glow
with light just scant enough to make me stay.
Are your eyes, too, so burdened by such thoughts?
Are their dreams too dissimilar from mine?
Do you swim in a sea of ‘wondernauts’—
their space where hopeless stars aimlessly pine?
If my eyes could say what my mouth cannot,
I’d tell you I’d solve all your ills for you.
And if your eyes hide, too, this selfsame thought,
I’d welcome all that hides within them, too.
Say first, say first, betray your silent eyes,
and wrench from me my own silent disguise.
