568: Springfield
Today I see the fruits that are not mine,
but for which I was present to see sown.
And I will reap, partake, drink up, and dine
on offerings that others should have known.
As if in Tantalus’ own fate am I,
but I can touch the water and the trees.
Though guilty still whene’er I dare to try–
for my labors do not deserve such ease.
The other vineyard workers–they should eat
of these ripe branches that are in my hand,
and drink from likewise waters at their feet,
and harvest all the bounties of this land,
and oust me from the storehouse of the field
where we worked once, and where I did not yield.
