TWO pop tarts for the price of NONE were MINE!
The fault of my faulty vending machine!
And guiltless I will be, despite my crime—
for they who own the box are never seen!
They will not answer calls for stolen cash,
nor when the buttons stick do they make haste
to fix their treasure chest, and so its stash
so often stays inside—a useless waste!
But NOW it has REWARDED ME, its FRIEND,
who would have gladly fixed the thing each time
its owners balked and had naught strength to send
repairmen—so it sat, gathering grime!
Poor dear vending machine, you do so well
when not subject to your company’s hell.

It’s quick, you know. It only takes one turn
that feels like there are better choices there,
but is, most often (if your heart can learn
by trying) better than assessment’s snare.
Don’t do that. Don’t assess yourself away
from doing something that is simply good.
If you have felt its joy another day,
and if that joy was wholesome, then it should
be something that you choose again. Right now,
allow that something that you once adored
to win over the “best” thing. Now allow
a “good” to give its “better”, true reward.
You could do something “optimized“—”ideal“,
or you could play a song that makes you feel.
