628 and 629
Don’t tell me how you feared this day would go,
but tell of all you want to see from here.
This voyage has so many things to show,
let’s chase them without pause, and without fear.
Forgive the turbulence we’ve had thus far,
the forward flight will be much smoother now.
I’ll tenderly caress the frightful scar
my errant nature saw fit to allow.
But now you’re here. And faulty parts have found
their complement in one another’s grace.
You soothe the bristles that are in me bound—
I strive to earn the tears you softly trace.
And never shall we be the same—but so
two lovers share that they can never know.

It needs to be upbeat! It needs to crunch
on every beat and every chord exchange!
It needs to make my ears joyfully scrunch
with harmonies clean, and melodies strange!
It needs to be low key! Like how the beach
felt on a humid day when you were young!
Or how the concrete would the Sun’s heat leech
in Summer, and at night would have it wrung!
It needs to be a groove! Your hinges all
must giddy be from how the music moves!
It must make all your smallness feel quite small,
and be what your inner rebel approves!
The thirteen year-old in you makes its law—
he strikes his gavel! Yes—it must be ska!
