What happened, and why did it, if at all?
And how exactly did it go about?
Also—who cares? Why does the story fall
in history books that professors tout?
And put it on a map with times and dates,
do not forget to organize that part.
Attach it to something else that relates,
and then you’ll know the story at its heart.
Then, if you’ve done it well, you now will know
the context of a thousand things at once.
For if you, from it, forward or back go,
you’ll know the reason for history’s worst stunts.
And if you do it once again with them,
you’ll see exactly how we are past’s stem.

There’s stuff that really matters. What is it?
What would it be if you were all that was?
What would it be if you were forced to sit
alone with what only your own mind does?
If you, my friend, were stuck within a cell,
with darkness and with nothing else to do
but be, and be alone, how would you dwell
with all other distractions out of view?
You would not call a friend in such state loss—
you’d hope, instead, he’d make the best of it.
So why, when you find yourself in such dross,
do you think that you are the more unfit?
The cell is what you see, so see it not,
and dwell upon what only you have got.
