This is a mushroom, plain as possible.
A dome on top and then two downward stems,
and those most patient and least crossable
can take the time to add the shroom-head’s hems.
He also served the first, as the cow did,
but far, far later in the timeline. Yes,
his efforts were late, and were often hid,
but many contemporaries he’d bless.
For forests need their caretakers as well.
Don’t ever think that they get by alone.
Your hand can be a real life-saving spell
to stalks which would, next year, have been laid prone.
He did that work. And few eyes saw him do.

This one is Subtle Arbor, and it grows
just like that if you let it grow up right.
But draw just six lines, up diagonal rows,
one stem, and some off side-aways just slight.
That general did love his flowers. This
was his most favorite of any one.
He would not, camp nor soldiers e’er dismiss
until he’d seen one, then the day was done.
The palace was so full of these, they say,
that night was ever buzzing with the flies
that love them, too. But pleasant e’en were they,
with such a lovely flower as their prize.
The flies were beautiful with such a feast.
A beautiful fare makes a comely beast.
