Fifteen minutes too late. What misfortune.
I’d like to have had that ninety-sixth more
of my day to be with you. But so hewn
that quarter hour was unjustly tore
out from my hands. And someone else now knows
the time I would have cherished more by far.
Do you know how much sorrow my heart sows
that I was not there, waiting in the car?
But how could I have known? I could have done,
if I’d been just a little more aware.
I might have already my day begun
if I had more intelligence to spare.
I didn’t. So another took my place.
And only hope for a yet unseen grace.
