To a Kangaroo
You knew that I would choose you, kangaroo.
Your name is simply far too special to
ignore. So that’s exactly what I’ll do:
explore the lessons that are found in you.
Of course, everyone knows I’ll choose your pouch.
It is the obvious thing that you bring.
Though other creatures carry it, you vouch
it publicly, and do not hide the thing.
Some others do. They have their reasons. Still,
I think there’s something special to your way.
While some keep what God gave them hid, you will
quite proudly keep yours centered on display.
Do I speak loudly of what should be soft?
But we were told to hold our gifts aloft.
