To a Panda
With all that wanton muscle, with what ease
you threaten naught but bendy bamboo trees.
Yet, in you, no predator a prey sees.
You simply get to do what e’er you please.
Your evolution bred you just for that?
When every other creature with such strength
would rise up, terrible in its combat,
yours merely keeps your foes at an arm’s length.
And then you use it for such easy fare..
Do you not know you can have anything?
You could own the whole world you see out there,
but choose a playground slide and tire swing?
While I want stars and voids and galaxies,
you want but what you need—the bamboo trees.
