I think, if someone’s watching the show: “Earth”,
they do not hate the characters for things
that we find in ourselves much lacking worth—
but rather like what our faultiness brings.
Outside ourselves, the context isn’t bad
for those who hate their weakness, but still try.
If anything, a viewer finds it sad
that one’s not novel in the mirror’s eye.
We see so in the media we like—
the best of actors are the ones with flaws,
who keep on swinging after every strike,
engaged in some important kind of cause.
That is the character you are. Say not
that you’ve not got the makings of a plot.

I had a conversation with the Moon
(just like the countless ones who’ve done before)
and asked her if she’d listened to me swoon
so many years ago and thence some more.
I asked her if she’d heard my pleas for you,
and if she’d wondered why I never thought
to ask those kinds of blessings for me, too,
and why I thought myself a thing of naught.
And for the first time ever, then I asked
if she could give me what I’d wished for thee:
that someone should be vigilantly tasked
with making sure the stars watched over me.
I hope they did. For you, I mean. I hope
the stars do not interpret it a trope.
