CLV: Double Back
That could have been important, so I think,
that thing I noticed just a few streets back.
What if it was? I look around, and blink,
and fret, and breathe—and then I double back.
Was that I leaf I stepped upon, just now?
That crunch beneath my sole a few feet back?
What if it was important, still, somehow?
And so, to check, I turn and double back.
Have I been living, doing something wrong?
With everything I’ve done these few years back?
What if my focus has been, all along,
misled? Should I turn round, and double back?
This rearview mirror keeps me right on track
as long as I am always doubling back.
