LXIX: The thirteenth of June
But if you listen (and you really must)
you’ll see that none of it’s what you believe.
They take for slogans all the words you’ll trust
and give you something that you’ll one day grieve.
Say, when was blood indicative of right,
save if we all agree a wrong’s been done?
And even then, but in the darkest night,
when persecutors have you on the run.
And even then, the best of men hold back
and trust in all the power that God wields.
And even then, when even God’s hands lack,
the good men trust in what good conscience yields.
So tell me, if you dare, is this a match?
On all you’ve known of goodness, does it catch?
