I ventured ‘long the trail and hit the tar,

so stuck, my fate did seem to me as stopped.

My hopeless efforts couldn’t get me far,

and all the strength I vaunted rose and dropped.

‘twas then I nighly sank into the earth

for what, in such vain efforts, could I hope?

My venture merely showed to me to my dearth:

my trek’s crowning conclusion out of scope.
